Subject: CP-007 and CP-008

Folks,
The discussion seems to have digressed away from the issues in CP-007
and CP-008 to the issue of dealing with host-dependencies in I/O in
general. I believe that is an issue for VASG to consider, since textio
for std_logic_1164 is built upon the textio facilities in the base
language.
I invite interested parties to continue the more general issue in the
VHDL-200x forum. Meanwhile, let's focus discussion in this list on the
proposals in CP-007 and CP-008.
To summarize where we stand, we have a proposal in CP-007 for a
std_logic_textio package providing {,o,h}{read, write} procedures based
on Synopsys's donation. Jim has proposed
(1) decimal read and write procedures
(2) revising the procedures to be less restrictive with the sizes of the
array parameters (ie, allowing them to be other than a multiple of 3
or 4 for octal and hex respectively)
(3) providing to-string functions
The proposals for based read/write and to-string should be considered in
coordination with VHDL-200x, since corresponding subprograms might be
provided in std.textio for bit_vector parameters.
CP-008 appears to be subsumed by CP-007.
End summary.
Is there support within the working group for Jim's proposals re CP-007?
Cheers,
PA
