Mentor has a package that offers such "C-like" subprograms.
Would Mentor be interested in donating this package for IEEE

We also looked into this a little for 1076.3.
I batted the question around, and what people would like to see
is something similar to the funcitionality of the "printf" command
in C.
Digging into this further, I found that the PLI group is adding
"printf" funcitonality, something we might want to leverage.
