Shared Variable WG (IEEE PAR 1076a) Home Page

Group Objectives:

The charter of the group is to amend VHDL (IEEE Std 1076.1-1993) in the area of Shared Variables. The purpose of the amendment is to provide additional syntax and semantics for the declaration and use of this new language construct to ensure portability across various vendor implementations and platforms and to maintain the concurrent nature of the language by specifying mutually exclusive access semantics for Shared Variables.

• Requirements gathering, analysis and prioritization has been completed.
• Amended language design is in process. Several versions of the Language Change Specification (LCS) have been reviewed and revised. A version of the LCS will soon be distributed to the WG for approval/disapproval.
• On approval of the amended language design, a formal standard amendment will be drafted and distributed for balloting. Upon approval, the IEEE 1076-1993 standard will be formally revised/superceded.
