IEEE P1497 BALLOT Approval Notification

Subject: IEEE 1497 SDF Ballot Success

Hello everyone!

76% of the ballots were returned with 94% of those returned being
affirmative: the IEEE 1497 SDF standard has successfully passed the
balloting phase!

This is an important step, and it means we're very near the end of the
process. I would like to thank everyone who participated for the
time, energy and careful consideration they've given to this effort so
far.

The final step to becoming an IEEE standard is approval by an IEEE
committee called RevCom, whose job it is to review the standardization
effort to make sure the procedures followed reflect consensus.
Comments accompanied most of the ballots, and RevCom requires that
these comments be addressed, so now the SDF Working Group will examine
those comments to see if any changes are called for.

If changes result, there will be a recirculation of the changes, or
even of an updated draft if necessary. The recirculation period is
normally very short, typically ten days, and there is no need to take
any action unless the changes cause you to change your vote. If a
recirculation is necessary it will probably take place before the end
of the year.

Once again, thank you all for helping make this standard a success.
