Hi,

I am trying to convert a PECL SPICE deck to IBIS using the NCSU's s2ibis2.

The input stage of this device is a PECL Diff input. The output stage is
PECL Diff output.

Can someone share a sample of a .s2i file that defines the syntax used
to define the PECL Diff inputs ?

Thanks in advance,
Syed.

Hi there.

I also am looking for a detailed ECL/PECL .s2i definition.

In general a full explanation about the proper methodology
of providing valid ECL IBIS models would be helpfull.

Thanks.

Dan.

IBIS = I/O Buffer Information Specification

The design community primarily uses electronic design tools and

SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis)

to develop and test the viability and performance characteristics of
their designs.

The IBIS standard is an alternative method of simulation for high speed
designs that

uses behavioral models verses transistor level models.

IBIS Web page located at : http://www.eigroup.org/ibis/ibis.htm

We had a well attended and informative IBIS Summit in October and now it
is

time to get going with the IBIS user meetings again. The IBIS

Users group continues to move forward with the IBIS Accuracy
Specification

and test board,IBIS Connector modeling and training initiatives. We

are hoping for additional involvement from the engineering community

in 1999 and are looking for input, involvement and ideas.

Do you want to come up to speed and learn about IBIS...?

Do you want to develop/investigate a particular IBIS related idea

that would assist with your system designs...?

Do you want to share your experiences using IBIS models and get

	feedback...?

Do you want to get generally involved in the current IBIS User
group discussions...?

Please feel free to join the IBIS User group meetings - all are
welcome,

in person or by conference link! Let Kathy Breda (breda@nesa.com) know

if you would like to attend so we have enough chairs and brownies!
Also,

if you would like to connect via conference phone, please let Kathy
know

and she will arrange the details.

Additional names have been added to the IBIS distribution list,

so if you did not attend the Summit and need copies of the
presentations,

you can get them off the IBIS web page (URL listed above) or contact
Kathy.

Directions to NESA:

From 495, take exit 27 (route 117, towards Maynard)

Follow 117 for about 3.5 miles

NESA is located on the second floor of the

Route 117 and Hudson Rd. Stow Brook Offices

are located across the street from CW fuels.

You can also reach Route 117 from Route 128.

Once on Route 117 follow road until you reach

To Steve Johnson, Kellee, and Steve Monroe and All:

Spice implementations of IBIS is a topic of general interest. It has been
discussed at meetings and briefly on the IBIS reflectors. Also, several
comparison studies with Spice simulations have been discussed at
meetings.

Vendor specific issues such as HSPICE offerings should be discussed
on the Signal Integrity reflector (where the message was also sent)
or with the vendor directly.

The question related directly to HSPICE, which is one vendor's
commercial implementation of Spice. As a general policy, the
IBIS reflectors avoid vendor-specific discussions because of
EIA guidelines.

However, I believe that implementations of IBIS in Spice using
behavioral constructs that are commonly available in several Spices
is an appropriate topic for ibis-users@eda.org reflector. The
formats for tables seem to be unique for different commercial
versions of Spice, so the discussion may have to use one vendor's
Spice for illustration. However, since the tables can be
translated or made equivalent in other versions of Spice,
I feel the substance of the discussion is sufficiently generic.

I refer to the following documents which are archived for further
reference on this issue of behavioral implementation of IBIS
in Spice.

  http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/summits/feb98/unger.zip

and the IBIS email reflector archives of October 1997 which
shows a prototype implementation.

In an IBIS model, if R_ref is not specified, is R_fixture used
as a default value? I know that this may be tool specific, but
I hope that there is a common answer.

Of course, the common answer may be to *always* specify R_ref.

Paul,

Although R_ref and R_fixture get put in the same topology in respect to the
driver, the use of these to parameters is very different, so I would hope
that no simulator assumes one from the other. R_ref is for board level
timing adjustment while R_fixture partially defines the environment in which
the rising and falling waveforms were measured. I good simulator could
scale the time waveforms if the resistance of the simulation environment is
different than the measurement environment.

Weston

As a beginner in IBIS Modelling, I have the following the questions:

i) What is the exact definition of C_comp? Does the C_comp include Pad
Capacitance or is it just the capacitance of the buffer on the silicon
after the pad?

It should include everything that you would see if you looked into the die
at
the pad. That is C_pad, C_metal, C_tranistor, etc.

ii) How can I generate for a buffer different IBIS Models if the buffer
has different modes like; Power Down, Normal Operation or Clock Stop?

Use the [Model Selector] keyword and list all models that can be used on a
pin
in it.

iii) How can I generate for a buffer which has a differential input and
differential output?

Use the [Diff Pin] keyword to associate two otherwise independent models as
differential.

Subject: IBIS MEETING AND ACCURACY DOCUMENTS

To All:

For people who have signed up and are planning to attend the IBIS
Summit Meeting to be held next week at DesignCon99 on Monday,
February 1, 1999, the meeting locations are as follows:

The meeting will be held in the Santa Clara Convention Center
in Grand Ballroom G.

The lunch will be held in the Westin Hotel, Ballroom D.

Also, all presenters who have not sent their presentations to
Milt Schwartz for copying please plan to bring 50 copies with
them to pass out. We will also need electronic copies for
archiving.

Finally, the latest Accuracy Specification documents have been
uploaded on http://www.eda.org/pub/ibis/accuracy/. See the readme.txt
file for contents. You can also download the documents through
anonymous FTP to that location.
