Dear colleagues,
Attached is Steve's proposal for additional wording for the PAR to
address the issue of compatibility with other standards. I guess the
words would be added to the Scope.
Our original schedule was to start a vote on the PAR after last Friday.
However, I will defer calling for votes until later this coming week, in
order for us to consider and comment on Steve's proposal. With your
agreement, I will subsequently call for votes on the basic wording as
previously posted, and on Steve's wording as an addition.
Go to it!
Cheers,
PA

My suggestion would be something along the lines of:
"As this proposed standard will be based on IEEE-Std 1076 and may at some future time be merged with 1076 or one or more 1076 derived standards, it will be compatible, to the greatest extent possible, with all existing 1076 derived standards (including, but not limited to, 1076.1, 1076.2, 1076.3, 1076.4, 1076.5, 1076.6 and 1164). Any incompatibilities will be documented."
The important points are to document the intent of compatibility not only with whatever comes from SID, but also Analog, std_logic, etc. except where it isn't possible. (Obviously, new keywords/reserved words will be necessary and the wording should allow this.) Also, it should not omit standards which don't exist today, but might by time of OOVHDL balloting (that is SID). Finally, where there are incompatibilities, they should be clearly documented in the standard.
The SID par should have the same wording used as OOVHDL. Who knows which will be first to ballot?

Steve,
Seems like discussion has gove a bit quiet on your issue of coordination with SID. As a way of addressing the issue now, would you care to propose amended or additional wording in the PAR?
Thanks.
Cheers,
PA
