Hi Cheryl,

Regarding the written release you asked me to get from UC Berkeley to distribute
an algorithm we are using in 1076.2, I just got a phone call on 6/15/95 from
their technology licensing department in return to my letter dated 6/2/95 of
which I sent a copy to you.

The response I got from Catherine Whenmouph (Office of Technology Licensing, UC
Berkeley) is as follows:

"UC Berkeley does not grant any additional written distribution
authorization to the copyright note already in the code; therefore,
as long as you (IEEE/ P1076.2) copy the original copyright note without
changes into your document, you can distribute the algorithm or its
derivatives as per the guidelines in the copyright note."

Therefore, they will not issue the release letter I requested. She also
told me that IEEE (you or whoever you think is appropriate) are welcome to
call her, but that no changes will be made to this decision which is their
current policy. Catherine's address and phone number are

	Office of Technology Licensing
	2150 Shattuck Ave., Suite 510
	Berkeley, CA 94704

Based on Ms. Whenmouph comments, we should consider that we have the
required authorization from UC Berkeley to use and distribute the derivative
work for the logarithmic function in P1076.2, since we copied the original
copyright note without changes into P1076.2.

Please let me know if you need any additional information regarding
this matter.

Regards,

Jose A. Torres
